Seminar Title: Additive Manufacturing Specialist (min. attendance of 4 Modules required)

Scope of seminar: Lectures, Discussions, Practicals

Module:

– AM – Metal industry

– AM – Polymers (Thermosets and Thermoplastics)

– AM — Design guidelines

– Industrial implementation of AM

– Excursion and project group work

– Certificate Exam (optional)

Duration: 3 months (2 alternative weekends each month. Lectures are on Fridays and Saturdays including excursions and hands-on workshops)

Language: English

Assessment methods: Assessment test from one of our certified partners and 1 practice oriented 3D print project

Who should attend (exclusive): min. Bachelor degree or 2 years of technical experience required

Participants at this course will be introduced to the concept of Additive Manufacturing (AM). The different AM technologies will be described with focus on those designed for processing thermoplastics and their composite forms. Design guidelines and rules for parts destined for AM will be highlighted. Value chains for the different kinds of AM will be described. Great emphasis will be given to the role of materials in AM together with their attendant challenges.

With AM holding much promise for industries, its applications scope now and in the future together with its placement as a tool within the context of Industry 4.0 will be discussed. Some economic aspects of AM namely impact on manufacturing goals, logistics, inventory and its growth across vertical markets will also be presented. This course will be supported with case studies derived from the medical, aerospace, sealing and injection molding industries. The learning outcome for participants at this course is that they have an advanced level appreciation for the technologies, materials processing, applications merits and economics of AM.

Prof. Dr. Brando Okolo

Prof. Dr. Brando Okolo is responsible for the technology, research and development, product management, business development and reaching new partners for collaborating in research projects. Based on his 15 years of experience in R&D mostly at the Max-Planck Institute and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) coupled with 5 years of a fulltime professorship in material science and engineering at the German University in Cairo (GUC) he brings along focus and vision at Apium.

Dipl. Ing. Uwe Popp
